Let Me Entertain You (I Made Bobby Owsinski’s Inner Circle Podcast!)
Producer/engineer/author and podcaster Bobby Owsinski got me talking about starting out in the industry, my light-bulb moment with Ry Cooder, my breakthrough with Bonnie Raitt, and working with Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson and The Stones.
He called it “one of the best interviews I’ve ever had on this show…it’s funny, it’s insightful and it’s all Ed Cherney.”
I had the good fortune to record and mix Willie Nelson’s new Gershwin album, and I’m really proud of it.
Produced by Buddy Cannon and Matt Rollings. All star cast of characters that just killed it.
And Willie absolutely shines.
Can’t wait for people to hear it.
BTW- How about that Gershwin Award and Kennedy Center Performance? (below)
Look who won the 2015 Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Limited Series Or A Movie.
Bessie, did. And therefore I did. All thanks to the supremely talented Queen Latifah.
Pleasure was all mine.
Big Band Christmas in June
Singer Steven Davis brought his big band chops to bear on an Xmas album this spring…and I helped.
Nothing like recording big bands in storied rooms. EastWest. Decca tree.
Just finished mixing and it’s not even July. Got my Christmas on early this year.
2015 Recording Industry Golf Tournament
Summer’s here and the time is right…for the Recording Industry Golf Tournament at MountainGate Country Club!
Teeing off this year Monday, June 29, the annual tourney raises money for the music and recording program at A Place Called Home, a dynamic community center and safe haven in South Central Los Angeles. Partner-in-crime Al Schmitt and I are honorary chairs.
It’s a great cause featuring all kinds of music industry movers and shakers who will nonetheless be competing in vain as I plan to win.
Bessie and the Queen (Latifah, that is)
Had a gas working with Queen Latifah co-producing, recording and mixing the music and soundtrack album for HBO Film’s “Bessie”, which aired this spring.
Starring Dana/Queen Latifah as legendary blues singer Bessie Smith, the film got really nice reviews, which is especially cool since it brings deserved attention to such a hugely influential singer.
And working on those songs…
Sarah Brightman Songs from Space…
As out-of-this-world gigs go, mixing the songs “Light” and “Wings of Love” recently for Sarah Brightman was right up there.
Sarah had hoped to be right up there, too…till her plans to travel later this year to the International Space Station were put on hold due to recent transpo snafus.
Still crossing my fingers she’ll realize her dream to not only play the songs we did from Earth orbit, but become the first musician to sing live from space!
I’ve been working with musician and film director Daniel Pritzker for decades.
Recently, that’s been recording big orchestral sessions with Wynton and Delfeayo Marsalis for the score and soundtrack of Dan’s upcoming Buddy Bolden bio-pic and labor of love, Bolden.
That’s Dick Gregory (below) playing an older Buddy Bolden on the set of Bolden with director Dan Pritzker.
Looking forward to this one…
Worked with former lead guitarist for the Eagles, Don Felder, recently mixing a live concert he did for AXS-TV that airs this month.
Recorded and mixed The Rides, the Stephen Stills Super Group with Kenny Wayne Shepard and Barry Goldberg.
A couple of the guys can play the guitar…and then there’s this keyboardist from my home town…
